This week, longstanding Australian fast food favourite Origin Kebabs will test blockchain payments at four flagship Queensland stores, allowing customers to pay for meals using bitcoin and other digital currencies.
The locations include:
A major research university
A stand in Queensland’s largest shopping centre
A beachside hotspot
A store that serves as Australia’s first drive-thru bitcoin restaurant
Origin Kebabs now incorporates blockchain infrastructure in selected stores as an alternative payment option to standard cash and card payments. Alongside a recent remodelling initiative, the move into blockchain technology helps Origin Kebabs better serve the evolving needs of customers and establish an innovative position in the Australian market.
Crypto on the menu: which cryptocurrencies can I spend?
Now, anyone can buy a variety of delicious kebabs, falafels, gozlemes, and snack packs using bitcoin, Binance Coin, Ethereum, and Litecoin.
Also integrated into Origin Kebabs is the ability to pay using the Lightning Network, a payment channel built on Bitcoin technology that allows for secure and ultra-fast payments.
Earlier in 2019, the Lightning Network “Trust Chain” appeared on Twitter, seeing users “pass the torch” by forwarding Lightning Payments to people in all corners of the globe.
The community praised the impressive functionality of Lightning payments and heralded some big names in the process, including Twitter/Square CEO Jack Dorsey, Binance CEO CZ, Anthony Pompliano, Andreas Antonopoulus, and Elizabeth Stark.
Binance brings blockchain ecosystem to Australia
The world’s leading blockchain ecosystem Binance officially entered Australia in March 2019 with the launch of Binance Lite. Binance Lite allows anyone to purchase bitcoin with cash at a network of supported newsagents across the country.
Alongside our work with Binance, we’ve included Binance Coin (BNB) payments at Origin Kebabs to help crypto users travel more freely.
Origin Kebabs’ use of Binance Coin makes it the first major dining rollout to feature the new option since its appearance on the TravelbyBit payment system in December 2018.
Origin Kebabs General Manager Burhan Göktas shared his excitement about the integration:
After learning about crypto, I knew I had to make it a part of our business. It’s a no-brainer to sign up with TravelbyBit. I am very excited that Origin Kebabs is going to be the first to adopt BNB payments at point of sale, following the launch of the new Binance chain.
